NGS technologies have revolutionized the field of genomics and increasingly find their way into human diagnosis and prognosis. Multiplex tools at single cell level have only emerged over the last few years, with spatial transcriptomics – Nature Journals method of the year 2021- holding much promise for basic and translational research. We are offering a unique multi-disciplinary position bringing together genomics, histology, and imaging data analysis to expand our core services. Your skills in NGS technologies (library preparation and sequencing protocols) are essential to support our growing customer base.

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the team of the Genomics Core Facility. In this position you will contribute to ongoing and upcoming NGS projects, as well as implement, optimize and further expand single-cell and spatial transcriptomics technologies. Your responsibilities

• Perform customer experiments in NGS applications (Library prep and sequencing) and quality control of submitted samples (RNA, DNA, libraries, single cells)
• Setup and operate complex equipment (e.g., pipetting robot, various Illumina sequencer)
• Support core customers in experimental design and troubleshooting
• Support cell culture and QC
• Establish, maintain, expand cross-disciplinary workflows and collaboration across various core facilities (especially CF-PTA and Bioinformatics) to set up a comprehensive workflow for spatial transcriptomics
• Support and lead method development and optimization of existing and upcoming spatial transcriptomics technologies
• Develop a quality control program for spatial transcriptomics
• In collaboration with colleagues set up a training program for spatial transcriptomics and contribute to training users of the core facility
• Support customers with reports, publications and presentations.
• Support maintenance of the LIMS systems and electronic data bases
• Support smooth operation of the core facility (ordering, storing, instrument QC etc.)
• Deliver optimized workflows and SOPs for a full-service core offering

Your qualifications

• A degree in biology (MSc) or related field or a BA/senior technician with at least 10 years hands-on NGS experience. PhD is a bonus
• Advanced knowledge and hands-on skills in molecular biology and NGS applications (library prep, sequencing, basic data analysis)
• Proven skills in method development and workflow optimization
• Experience with experimental design and troubleshooting
• Experience in writing scientific reports and SOPs
• Experience in cell culture, tissue preparation techniques and microscopy
• Good management, communication and organization skills
• Clear customer service mentality to support users of the core facility
• Able to work independently and as part of a larger team, attention to detail and rigor
• Proficient English language skills (both written and spoken)
