Aramark Canada is recruiting a General Manager for our Food Services operations at a higher education institution in the Ottawa region.
Reporting to the District Manager, the General Manager will oversee the daily food service and facilities and will be responsible for the profitable management of these services under contract with the Client. Responsibilities include interaction with the client, customers and employees and providing vision to grow the business while exemplifying excellent leadership.
Job Responsibilities
- Direct and lead a large, multi-unit food, beverage, and facility operation
- Strong leadership of unionized hourly staff and salaried managers
- Coordinate and supervise personnel regarding production, merchandising, quality, cost control, labour, scheduling, staffing, and training
- Establish and maintain procedures for purchasing, receiving, storage, preparation, and food service
- Grow catering business through marketing initiatives and successful client business relationships
- Prepare business plans, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for all business sectors
- Monitor financial operating results in order to achieve company and client objectives
- Train, develop and mentor the management team and establish succession plans
- Develop new initiatives and programs to improve sales and customer satisfaction
- Assist front line managers with operational and staffing issues; assist in menu planning
- Ensure all operating standards are achieved
- Ensure that standards for sanitation and food safety are met
- Maintain records to comply with Aramark, and government standards
- Ensure compliance with Marketing and Human Resources Programs
- Ensure adherence to Aramark’s Policies, Procedures and Health and Safety programs
Qualifications
- University Degree or College Diploma in Hospitality, Business Management, or a related field
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset
- Successfully demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, managing a staff of direct reports between 15-20 while overseeing a staff of 150-200 employees
- Minimum 5 years progressive management experience in a multi-unit and similar sized operation
- Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred
- Experience managing a board plan operation
- Experience managing National brands
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
- Strong analytical, project planning, and excellent financial management skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients, customers, colleagues, and staff
