A Day in the Life… 

The Gender & Sexual Violence Support and Education Coordinator is responsible for supporting campus wide gender and sexual violence prevention, peer support, and education as defined in the Sexual Violence Policy. This role will manage a team of student employees who plan, coordinate, and execute campus-wide educational programming including awareness campaigns, signature events, and customized workshops for students, staff and faculty. The Gender & Sexual Violence Support and Education Coordinator operates a student-lead space for disclosures of gender and sexual violence that provides confidential referral, support and resources to Survivors.

As the Gender & Sexual Violence Support and Education Coordinator, you will: 

• Coordinate student-lead peer drop in and virtual spaces for to receive confidential disclosures of gender and sexual violence;
• Provide appropriate and confidential support to members of the Brock community who disclose and/or who have concerns related to gender and sexual violence;
• Support Survivors in pursuing any and all options that are available;
• Ensure that the University’s response to disclosures of gender and sexual violence is timely and adheres to university policy;
• Escalate comprehensive, Survivor-led university response to disclosures of gender & sexual violence when there is a possible threat to the safety of the Brock community;
• Develop University-wide strategies and creates operational and promotional plans for education, training and prevention of gender and sexual violence;
• Participate as a support to relevant committees including the President’s Advisory Committee on Human Rights, Equity and Decolonization (PACHRED) Sexual Violence Prevention Working Group;
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge on emerging trends, policy development, research, and best practices in delivering programs in post-secondary sector;
• Lead professional and support staff in achieving strategic goals and serving together as a team, maintaining a positive and productive office environment;
• Develop and maintain relationships with groups and organizations that support survivors of sexual violence and foster equity, on campus and in the Niagara region;
• Collect comprehensive data, prepare reports and provide recommendations to inform gender and sexual violence prevention and response;
• Design and facilitate educational programs and workshops on a diverse range of topics related to gender-based violence, consent, and sexual violence.

What you need to Succeed…

• A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. Education, Social Justice, Psychology, Gender Studies, or Human Rights & Equity), or equivalent;
• A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of progressive experience in an advisory and support role focused on sexual violence prevention and support;
• A strong intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive and anti-racist analysis of sexual, intimate relationship and family violence, including decolonial and intercultural awareness;
• Demonstrated experience with trauma informed care and practices;
• Culturally knowledgeable and sensitive; awareness of the impact of sexual violence on 2SLGBTQ+ communities;
• Knowledge of human rights and intersectional sexual violence issues that arise in a university setting;
• Demonstrated experience in successful promotion of survivor centered sexual violence prevention;
• Extensive experience providing effective, confidential support and advice to Survivors of sexual violence;
• Systems-level understanding of university environments and stakeholders with a role in sexual violence prevention and/or response;
• Remain current on sexual violence prevention research, legislation (i.e. Bill 132, Human Rights Code, FIPPA, etc.) and trends;
• Demonstrated understanding of the differential impacts of trauma on diverse individuals and groups, resulting from sexual, intimate relationship and family violence;
• Ability to deal effectively with a broad client base as well as the ability to remain unbiased and objective and work in confidence;
• Experience in designing and delivering training workshops related to sexual violence prevention, awareness and response;
• Ability to remain calm and confidently handle confidential situations with empathy;
• Ability to handle emotional situations and put people at ease, while gathering the information required to provide relevant advice and support;
• Demonstrated leadership and advocacy skills;
• Strong organizational and time management skills;
• Demonstrated decision-making skills, with the ability to consider all possible options and provide relevant considerations.

Preferred or Asset Skills… 

• Training and/or certification in Adult Education will be considered an asset.

Salary and Benefit Information

• Job Grade (L), Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280)*;
• Target Hiring Range: $62,580-$80,000;
• This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
• The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
