Description
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission seeks motivated applicants to the Conservation Technician position at the Grove Trout Rearing Station, where they will assist the Fish Production Manager with multiple fish culture and aquatic programs within the Fisheries Division of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. This is an opportunity to carrying out fish culture practices to meet program and agency goals.

Assist with the execution of the fisheries production plan. Assist with various aspects of fish production to include fish spawning, feeding fish of multiple lots and maintaining associated records, collecting and performing sample counts, and distribution of fish throughout the state. Perform treatments for fish disease and aquatic vegetation control as required. Maintain hatchery grounds to include mowing, tree trimming and removal. Assist with the maintenance of equipment, vehicles, buildings, grounds and ponds. Operate specialized equipment for water quality assessment, chemistry, and laboratory work Operate equipment associated with the production of fish and grounds maintenance to include motor vehicles, motorboats, rotary mowers, riding and push lawn mowers, tractors with front end loaders, back hoes, electric and acetylene welders. Participate in public relations work providing tours and information to visiting public about the operation of the hatchery and related Commission activities. By assignment, may serves as work leader for temporary and volunteer staff. Assist with fisheries management activities, interagency and intra-agency projects and other related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS: 15 semester hours or the equivalent of post high school coursework/training in fisheries management, natural resources and/or biology AND 12 months experience in wildlife, recreation or fisheries management. Preference: Bachelor’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, natural resources, biology or related field and 12 months experience in fish culture or fisheries management, wildlife, or recreation. Valid driver’s license required.

OTHER: Incumbent must acquire an aquatic pesticide applicator’s license within the first year of hire.
