The Department of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a faculty member who will be eligible to be a Full Professor (tenure track) at the time of appointment in Psychology with specialization(s) in Individual and Population Health. This position carries a substantial endowment that will help to advance a tradition of excellence in the department through a scholarly focus on long-term prevention of and interventions for chronic mental or behavioral health conditions. Many faculty in the department focus on the integration of individual and population/ community-level approaches to these conditions. Accordingly, the hire will maintain a major line of independent scholarship and also play a key role in research mentorship and intellectual leadership for 25 departmental tenure-line faculty. Operating support for this position will come from a generous gift to the university, the James O. Prochaska Endowment.
The Department of Psychology seeks a psychological researcher in Individual and Population Health with a focus on changing health behaviors through prevention and intervention. Applicants must offer a robust program of scholarship in line with a long-term tradition in the department to recognize both within-person processes of change and the opportunity to develop population-level interventions supporting positive change in light of them. The successful applicant must have significant experience in generating extramural funding for high impact clinical and population randomized trials. Expertise in the study of multiple health behaviors through high impact interventions across a diversity of populations is required. Understanding of the transtheoretical model, motivational interviewing, and other behavior change models is of interest, but not required. Extensive experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and in leading such teams is expected. The successful candidate will also initiate and partner as appropriate with local, state, and national entities in advancing health research at the University of Rhode Island.
