Position description
The John P. & Anne Welsh McNulty Foundation seeks a freelance part-time Research Associate to support due diligence, research and writing in support of Foundation grant-making. This is a 20 hours a week, paid position based in Brooklyn, NY, with flexible in-person and remote work.
The McNulty Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1985. Through its signature program, the McNulty Prize, and other grant programs focused on leadership development, the foundation inspires, develops, and drives leaders to solve the most critical challenges of our time. As a freelance part-time Research Associate you will play a critical role by supporting immediate and long-term projects, reporting directly to the Program Manager, and collaborating with the Executive Director, Operations Manager, and core Foundation team. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced environment dedicated to social impact, gain exposure to the philanthropic sector, and contribute to an organization going through a period of growth and expansion.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research, Writing, Storytelling, and Special Projects
- Conduct research, writing, and due diligence on current and prospective partners and grantees, including supporting the writing and development of research briefs and summaries for team, jury, and board review;
- Support ongoing research projects related to Foundation programs and grant-making areas, including leadership development, civic participation, climate action, and gender equity, as well as research related to best practices in philanthropy and amplifying grantee partners; and
- Translate candidate research and information into internal and external communications, including board and jury summaries and briefings, public communications, and other external messaging.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- A commitment to the mission of the McNulty Foundation—to inspire, develop, and drive leaders to solve the most critical challenges of our time;
- Strong research and analytical capabilities and excellent written communication skills; able to synthesize research and data to guide decision making
- Experience in or familiarity with key social impact issue areas such as climate, health, education, civic engagement, etc
- Strong strategic, organizational, and project management skills; and careful attention to detail
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work with and respect people of different cultures and viewpoints;
- The ability to operate efficiently, multitask, manage deadlines, and work independently
- A growth mindset, can-do attitude, versatility, and openness to engaging in a spectrum of work
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications
