Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Physical Therapy, in the College of Allied Health Sciences, offers two degrees: the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) accredited by the Committee for Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), and the PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences — Movement Sciences concentration. Ninety students are enrolled in the 3-year (year-round) DPT program, and typically 3-5 are enrolled in the PhD program. The department consists of 15 full time 12-month faculty who are active in teaching, research, service, and clinical care year-round. The department also operates a faculty practice (ECU Physical Therapy Clinic) and faculty oversee the pro bono Student Run Clinic.
The College of Allied Health Sciences includes eight departments with programs at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. Also located in the Health Sciences Building is the Laupus Health Sciences Library which provides a librarian dedicated to supporting allied health faculty and students. All classrooms in the building are technology-enhanced (e.g., SMART devices, video capture), and the college employs a fulltime educational technology staff person. The College of Allied Health Sciences has a strong working relationship with the Brody School of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the School of Dental Medicine, and the East Carolina Heart Institute offering many opportunities for collaboration in teaching and research. East Carolina University is partnered with the regional healthcare system ECU Health which serves 29 counties in eastern NC. ECU Health Medical Center, located adjacent to the Health Sciences campus, is a 900+ bed, level-1 trauma center which offers myriad collaborative opportunities for our faculty and students.
East Carolina University, with an enrollment of 28,000+, is located in Greenville, North Carolina (population of 87,500). On the coastal plains, the area has mild winters and is 90 miles from the beautiful Crystal Coast and the capital city of Raleigh. It is within driving distance to Charlotte, Washington DC, Myrtle Beach, and the Smoky Mountains.
Job Duties The individual selected for this position will be involved in teaching, research and service in our DPT curriculum, with their primary duties as Director of Clinical Education being related to student clinical education. Job duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Teaching and Advising

· Coordinate and promote all clinical education experiences for all DPT students.
· Regularly monitor student progress, assess and review for clinical readiness, and provide effective feedback to students, clinical instructors, and faculty to refine and enhance clinical learning experiences throughout the program.
· Managing student clinical education concerns including remediation and termination as necessary.
· Teach clinical education courses and seminars and provide additional instruction in their area of expertise in the DPT curriculum.
· Use universal design for learning to provide equitable, effective classroom and lab instruction to diverse groups of students with varying learning styles and study strategies in our DPT program.
· Develop effective strategies to enrich existing relationships with clinical partners, and continually explore opportunities for creating new partnerships, to provide students with valuable clinical education experiences across a variety of patient populations and clinical settings.
· Serve as academic advisor for a subset of DPT students.
Research and Scholarly Activity

· Actively engage in research and scholarly activity, in collaboration with other faculty
· Mentor DPT students in completion of capstone research projects.
· Disseminate research findings through appropriate means (e.g., published manuscripts, presentations at professional meetings)
Service

· Serve on committees at various levels of academia (department, college, university).
· Maintain membership in APTA and provide service to the profession through committees, leadership positions, etc.
Minimum Education/Experience Must hold a DPT degree.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in North Carolina.
Must have a minimum of five years of physical therapy clinical experience.
Must have experience mentoring DPT students in clinical education experiences, research experiences, and/or community service learning.
Demonstrate strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in North Carolina.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Prior DPT clinical education management experience in either an academic program (i.e., DCE, ADCE, ACCE) and/or clinical setting (i.e., SCCE, CI).
Experience with teaching and curricular development in a DPT academic education program.
Experience with Exxat clinical education management software.
At least seven years of clinical practice
Experience in clinical management/supervision
Possess a clinical specialist certification (ABPTS)
Established relationships with our clinical partners in NC and surrounding states.
Experience collaborating with other DPT programs/DCEs to coordinate clinical education schedules through a consortium such as the Carolinas Clinical Education Consortium.
