Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program) Founded over 60 years ago in the belief that Milwaukee would need a great public university to become a great city, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) has a dual research and access mission aimed at serving the diverse needs of Wisconsin’s largest metropolitan area by furthering opportunities at all levels for students who may be financially or educationally disadvantaged. More than one-third of its students are the first in their families to attend college, and 30 percent are students of color. In all, the university educates more than 24,000 students on its three campuses.
The Children’s Learning Center at UWM is located on the Milwaukee campus and provides excellent care and education for children ages 6 weeks through 13 years of age. The Center has been serving the university community for 50 years and offers both flexible and full-time scheduling options to UWM student, faculty/staff, and alumni families. The UWM Children’s Learning Center is licensed by the State of Wisconsin and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The salary starts at $46,000 but final salary offer will be contingent upon the finalists knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to the position responsibilities and qualifications. The University of Wisconsin (UW) System offers a comprehensive benefits package to meet the diverse needs of our community. The University contributes towards the cost of several benefit plans. Employees also receive a vacation package starting at 104 hours during first year, sick leave (with no expiration), personal holiday (36 hours each year), and paid legal holidays.
Job Summary The Financial Specialist II exercises independent decision making in authorized areas and must communicate information to management of the department, the Student Affairs Divisional Office and other campus personnel as needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing all aspects of billing and collections for user fees totaling approximately $3M/Year
  • Management of purchasing and accounts payable departmental activities
  • Budget monitoring, grant compliance and performance accounting
  • Monthly reconciliation accounting
  • Financial records management

The position works under the general supervision of the Associate Director and performs routine/semi-routine duties for the department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience in a financial business position
  • Associate degree or higher in Business Administration or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience auditing invoices
  • Experience in purchasing
  • Ability to demonstrate basic accounting principles
  • Experience providing customer service in financial-related matters
  • Experience working in an educational setting, government, or large business financial operations
