Financial Operations Manager

Position Description:

In the role of Financial Operations Manager you will provide leadership, planning and support for the operational areas of fixed assets, capital projects, daily banking, leases, and general administrative support, while seeking and achieving continuous development of staff and continuous enhancement of systems, processes and work product.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the operations related to fixed assets and capital projects, including the tagging and inventory of capital equipment, monitoring and capitalization of capital projects, monthly reconciliation of the fixed asset sub-ledger.
  • Responsible for lease accounting and completion of the annual personal property tax returns. Responsible for the annual blended rent analysis and monthly departmental blended rent.
  • Provide leadership for daily cash management and monthly reconciliation activities. 
  • Responsible for preparation of the financial reporting work in support of the monthly financial statements, the annual audit, the annual institutional budget and regular forecasting activities for operational areas of responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the daily banking operations, including wire transfers, deposit of cash and checks, credit card processing and the funding of departmental petty cash.
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient in accounting and compliance requirements and policies and procedures related to operational areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee administrative support operations, including review and approval of purchase orders and procurement card activity for the Controller’s Office. Responsible for maintaining document retention database.
  • Resolve complex transactions, address new issues, and complete special projects related to operational areas of responsibility.
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient with financial operation systems and systems testing. Ensure system functionality is fully and efficiently utilized on a daily basis to enhance the effectiveness of deliverables and service.
  • Actively participate in identifying and implementing process enhancements to ensure that the financial operations functions are continually enhanced to achieve efficiencies while maintaining high quality deliverables and appropriate level of internal controls.
  • Direct managerial responsibility for designated Controller’s Office personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Advanced working knowledge of banking, fixed assets and accounting operations. 
  • Advanced management accounting skills with an understanding of cost accounting, accounting controls, budgeting and financial forecasting.  Proficient knowledge of GAAP and the ability to apply such knowledge to accounting and financial operations activities.
  • Advanced critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently to research issues, draw conclusions and present such conclusions effectively, are required.     
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Word, automated accounting software and related report writing tools is required. 
  • Sound managerial, staff development and team-building knowledge, skills and abilities are required, along with the ability to continually focus on staff development to ensure team members have the knowledge and skills needed to work independently and successfully in a changing environment. 
  • Experience with process automation and process enhancement highly desired. The successful candidate will need to identify areas for change and have the ability to maintain a consistent focus on process efficiencies.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, high standards of productivity and accuracy, and excellent service attitude. 
  • Ability to show initiative, exercise judgment and manage in an environment within multiple, competing and frequently changing priorities.

M-F, 8a-5p

Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

  • Bachelor Degree – Accounting                                                                                                     
  • 8 years of experience in a complex, automated accounting environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced with duties in the operational areas of banking, fixed assets, balance sheet account reconciliations, journal entries and financial analysis, invoicing and collection preferred. Management or supervisory experience preferred. Experience in a non-profit organization preferred.
  • CPA desired
