Occupational Summary:
Provide overall administrative financial management of the Children’s Clinical Research Unit (CCRU) within the Department. This includes budget development, budget negotiations, financial management oversight of the CCRU and its portfolio, and financial reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities:
Budget Development and Negotiations – 50%
· Work with institution, department, division, study teams, and faculty on developing budget in accordance with sponsor’s requirements and institutional and departmental policy, procedures and deadlines.
· Participate in study initiation meetings for new submissions.
· Negotiate complex budgets and payment terms with sponsors and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs). This includes negotiating out-of-scope payments with sponsors.
· Oversee submission of budget and contract approval process.
· Track proposed projects and any related budget and contract issues.
· Serve as the central point of contact with sponsors and CROs regarding budgets and contracts.
Clinical Research Financial Operations – 25%
· Manage the clinical research financial operations which includes, but is not limited to, award set up, milestone payment tracking and invoicing, accounts receivable collections, allocation determination, internal charges, distribution of funds, accrual entries, reconciliation of charges, and project closure.
· Adhere to sponsor, institution and department policies and procedures, including the development of new CCRU policies and procedures when needed.
Financial Reports and CCRU Budget – 25%
· Oversee the monthly preparation of clinical research financial reports for department, division, and faculty. This includes aggregated and project financials with projections and variances. Prepare an executive summary of overall financial results and present to CCRU leadership.
· Meet with department teams and faculty to review the financial reports offering any explanations or insights.
· Prepare the CCRU operating budget, projections, and variance explanations for CCRU and department leadership.
Skills:
Strong communication, organizational, and financial analytical skills.
Education/Training:
Work requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
Experience:
Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.
