FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, Chemical Engineering (ChemE), to provide complex and diverse financial support for the general institute budget (GIB) and endowed and expendable accounts.  Will provide financial support to the administrative officer; participate in and act as the main point of contact for ChemE’s financial review and control activities; reconcile monthly accounts and prepare and analyze financial reports for multiple accounts/projects; review, process, and/or track financial transactions to ensure accuracy; manage hourly student payroll and create and manage student appointment; act as primary contact for department credit card approvals and maintenance; forecast and project revenue and spending across department accounts; review, process, and track payments and reconcile all GIB commitments/invoices/requisitions/purchase orders/requests for payment; resolve billing discrepancies; approve invoices/RFPs, travel expense reports, and purchases on department accounts; perform budget review with select administrative managers; process travel reports; create/manage nextSource appointments; act as commuter program coordinator; request IDs and email accounts for visitors/temps; distribute and follow up on salary distribution reports/changes; review expenditures/transactions for conformance with budgets and MIT policy; prepare annual financial expenditure reports; oversee travel/procurement card processing; and perform other duties and work on special projects.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; two years’ accounting/finance experience; excellent analytical, financial, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills; good judgment and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; knowledge of accounting principles, databases, and spreadsheets; meticulous attention to detail; ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities and work independently and within a coordinated team; and Excel proficiency.  PREFERRED:  experience in financial administration or higher education; familiarity with SAP and MIT-specific applications, e.g., Concur, Atlas, Buy to Pay, NIMBUS, COGNOS, etc.; and interest in learning new platforms/technology.  Job #21973-6
