Emporia State University is seeking a full-time Financial Aid Specialist to join our Financial Aid, Scholarships & Veterans Services team in Emporia, KS.
The Financial Aid Specialist is primarily responsible for managing the process for students who receive Federal Direct loans and Athletic aid, in adherence to regulations set forth by the US Department of Education and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Must be able to work under minimal direction, making independent judgements and taking action in accordance with established policy and procedure. This position interacts with students, parents, staff and faculty across campus and is responsible for maintaining the office website.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Monitor compliance engine for athletic aid and work with athletic staff and coaches to resolve discrepancies
· Oversee all phases of the federal direct loan & private loan programs –generate loan rosters and receive and troubleshoot results. Reconcile loan accounts with Dept of Education and ESU business office
· Perform disbursement of aid for posting to student accounts, review file to ensure all eligible aid was disbursed
· Counsel students and parents in understanding of the FAFSA process, the ESU awarding process in person and by phone, mail or e-mail
· Approve and track agreements between ESU and other schools for students using federal aid to take courses at other institutions
· Assist at recruitment/retention & community outreach events
· Communicate general information about other forms of aid, such as institutional grants and scholarships
· Other, appropriate duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
· Requires a High School diploma with three years of experience in an office or administrative position.
· Appropriate college coursework or vocational training may substitute for the required experience.
· Critical thinking, strong organization, oral, and written communication skills are critical.
· The successful candidate will be able to adapt and respond to changes of federal regulations, software and other needs of the office.
· The ability to work under pressure with a high degree of accuracy is necessary.
· Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Compensation: $17.78 to $19.00 hourly and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Desirable Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree
· Financial aid experience or experience working with state/federal regulations
Working Conditions and Atmosphere
Fast paced academic environment that will include interaction with students, parents, and various on and off campus offices and agencies.
Availability beyond 40 hours per week may be expected during peak times.
