Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
*Able to prioritize projects and work flow and make decisions using independent judgment.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Possesses strong customer service skills.
*Familiar with the Alaskan K-12 public school system.
*Ability to interpret and communicate policies and processes; both in written and verbal forms to a diverse population.
*Knowledgeable of accounting techniques/practices, and able to maintain meticulous purchasing files.
*Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite and experienced with databases.
*Proficient in handling matters of a sensitive, confidential, and sometimes challenging nature, requiring tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and helpfulness when interacting with students, K-12 personnel, faculty and staff from diverse cultural, social-economic, and other backgrounds.
*Ability to analyze and resolve questions and problems or refer to appropriate staff/faculty/office.
*Ability to track issues and ensure tasks are recorded and administered appropriately and follow through on projects and program needs.
Typical Experience:
The successful candidate possesses and can articulate a strong working knowledge of the K-12 or higher education school system. They have experience in a professional office setting, preferably in a school.
Required Education or Training:

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education, business, or a related field) and two years of relevant office or school experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 78, based on education and experience.

Join the team of professionals who support the UAS mission as an Administrative Assistant in the Alaska College of Education. Our candidate to manage departmental travel and purchasing as well as assist program faculty will be skilled in the basics of bookkeeping, an effective communicator, well organized, able to work independently, and capable of tracking multiple tasks. The Alaska College of Education provides programs in initial and advanced teacher training, both on-campus and in distance delivered format. This position provides travel, purchasing and finance, human resources, and inventory management support for faculty, staff, and program participants.This position fulfills critical financial and office management duties for the Alaska College of Education. A successful candidate must understand the importance of diplomacy, confidentiality, and apply the appropriate standards. This position plays an important role in communicating with other UAS offices in order to perform tasks as several levels.
