The University of Maryland School of Social Work has an exciting opportunity for a Family Support Center Director to join their team.  The Director position will oversee all aspects of program development, supervision of staff, budget, fundraising, enrollment, and facilities for the Family Support Center, located in the Promise Heights footprint of Upton/Druid Heights Baltimore City neighborhood.  This position will collaborate closely with the sponsoring agency, Maryland Family Network, and will work under the supervision of the Social Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS) at the University of Maryland Baltimore.  As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of the Family Support Center will provide strategy, leadership, and guidance to support SWCOS in achieving organizational objectives. The Director will develop, monitor, improve, and evaluate programs toward long-term sustainability.
 
The Family Support Center will offer an opportunity to expand and strengthen the department’s early childhood programming by co-locating integral services for expectant and parenting families of children ages 0 to 48 months and collaborate with multi-generational caregivers to support the safety, stability, healing and growth of children and families. The individual and family-based services will include addressing families’ emergency financial needs, space for education and teaching on caregiving practices and techniques, therapeutic services for children and families, and case management services to support families with navigating systems to address their physical health, social and emotional well-being.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Family Support Center, including overseeing construction, program design and staff recruitment/onboarding in order to open the new initiative to the community.
  • Lead the development of and provide ongoing support to a Community Advisory Board made up of stakeholders who will inform all aspects of the Center.
  • Provide direct supervision of Center activities, including early childhood programming, workforce development, home visiting, case management, and community organizing.
  • Oversee intervention strategies based on evidence supported models.
  • Manage Center budget, fundraising, and facilities operations.
  • Ensure the Center adheres to organizational values, policies, and practices.
  • Oversee the care, safety, and wellbeing of staff, participants, interns, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate staff meetings, staff orientation, training, and professional development.
  • Support program evaluation activities and fidelity to the Family Support Center model.
  • Oversee the development of systems to collect, analyze, and report data on program outcomes.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical and programmatic reports.
  • Develop strong working relationships with community partners as well as across the SWCOS department to enhance services to children and family. Specifically collaborating closely with the B’more for Healthy Babies program as well as the Family Connections Baltimore program, both initiatives housed in SWCOS.
  • Other duties, as are appropriate and assigned.

 

Qualifications

  
Education: Bachelor’s degree. Master’s in social work, education, human services, or related field is preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years in community service program coordination, development, oversight, or administration. Experience working with urban communities and specifically in-depth knowledge and experience in administration of trauma responsive children and family service programs. Experience overseeing early childhood programming preferred
Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years supervisory experience. 
Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
Preferred Experience: Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.  Demonstrates a commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.  Incorporates anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices and principles to accomplish their work. Experience with family-focused and/or home-based clinical services to families with children in urban environments exposed to trauma and racial injustice. Experience with public speaking and presentations to a variety of stakeholders.

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience addressing structural barriers experienced by children and families.
  • Demonstrated skill in provision of trauma- and culturally- responsive services and related program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Training and supervision of human service staff and students.  
  • Administration skills include proposal development, grant reporting; paper and presentation development; and computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and utilize community resources, existing knowledge of Upton/Druid heights is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain volunteers.
  • Knowledge of Board structure, its function and Agency/Board relationships.

 
The Hiring Range for this position is in the $100,000s to low $110,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
