| Organizational Unit Overview | TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center of the Department of Pediatrics is in accord with this primary purpose. This purpose will be achieved by providing 1) comprehensive evaluation and treatment of children who have been referred because of suspected abuse and/or neglect and 2) providing an educational resource for professionals in eastern North Carolina who provide such evaluations themselves in their own communities 3) Provide child abuse prevention to professionals, the community, students and 4) provide support for child abuse professionals in the region through promoting collaboration and providing training and guidance to advance child abuse knowledge as well as promote the inter agency/multidisciplinary response to child abuse. |
| Job Duties | The Family Advocate must provide the following constellation of services: 1. Crisis assessment and intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning and support for children and family members at all stages of involvement with TBCAC 2. Assessment of individual needs and cultural considerations for the child and family to ensure those needs are addressed 3. Provision of education and access to victims’ rights and crime victims’ compensation 4. Assistance in procuring concrete services (housing, protective orders, domestic violence intervention, food, transportation, public assistance etc.) 5. Provision of referrals for specialized, trauma focused, evidence-supported mental health and medical treatment, if not provided at the CAC 6. Access to transportation to interviews, court, treatment and other case-related meetings 7. Engagement in family response regarding participation in the investigation and/or prosecution 8. Participation in staffing in order to discuss the unique needs of the child and family and plan associated support services, ensure the seamless coordination of services, and ensure the child and family’s concerns are heard and addressed 9. Provision of updates to the family on case status, continuances, dispositions, sentencing, and inmate status notification (including offender release from custody) 10. Linkage to or provision of court education and support. Family advocate will also provide backup coverage for front desk/patient access services duties. Family advocate also provides clinic support and travel to multiple CAC locations. CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it’s teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health. |
