The Department of Geology and Environmental Science at the University of Pittsburgh https://www.geology.pitt.edu/ invites applications for a new research assistant professor position. This appointment will work closely with the Tectonics group of Professor Nadine McQuarrie, studying geometry, kinematic evolution, exhumation, and topographic development of compressional mountains. This appointment, which is subject to budgetary approval, will be at the non-tenure level and will begin January 9th , 2023.

Experience with creating and restoring balanced geologic cross-sections across compressional orogens is essential.  A Ph.D. is required in Geoscience with a focus on Tectonics.  Must be proficient in Move (Midland valley/Pertex), Matlab, and Illustrator, and comfortable using command line scripts.  Primary research objectives focus on the sequential reconstruction of structural cross sections, specifically in Taiwan, restoring these cross sections to account for flexure and topographic evolution, and setting up and running thermal models using Pecube.  Maintaining accurate and comprehensive files outlining workflow is critical as is displaying the data and output graphically. Preference will be given to candidates with experience using Move. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
