TERM ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR (MONCTON)
The Faculty of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) invites applications from qualified individuals with acute care expertise for a full-time, two-year term Assistant Teaching Professor position that will commence on July 1, 2024. The position is situated at the Moncton site and involves a combination of remote and in-person classroom, laboratory, and clinical and teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Faculty Background: Founded in 1785, UNB is one of the oldest public universities in North America which stands on the unsurrendered and unceded traditional Wolastoqey land. The Faculty of Nursing has a long-standing history offering nursing education in New Brunswick with its first undergraduate degree program being launched in 1958 and graduate degree program in 1995. The Faculty of Nursing is situated on the UNB Fredericton campus, has a Moncton site, and offers collaborative programs with national and international partners. In partnership with the Horizon Health Network, we have an innovative primary health care based clinic, the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre, which is a site for experiential learning.
Across these locations, the Faculty of Nursing offers a range of pathways toward earning Bachelor and Master of Nursing degrees that include options for individuals entering directly from high school, with university degree credits or a university degree, or with a practical nurse diploma. Undergraduate offerings include a 4-year in-person program (Fredericton), a 2-year in-person accelerated program (Moncton), and a Licensed Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Nursing (LPN-BN) pathway offered in-person and via remote delivery (Learn Where You Live). The Faculty of Nursing also offers a dual degree program with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education College of Nursing in India and has a collaborative partnership for delivery of the Bachelor of Nursing Program with Humber College in Toronto. Graduate program offerings include a Master of Nursing Thesis/Report or Master of Nursing Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
The Bachelor of Nursing program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing and is approved by the Nurses Association of New Brunswick. The Master of Nursing Advanced Nurse Practitioner program is approved by the Nurses Association of New Brunswick. Across our undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum is based on principles of primary health care, caring and social justice and is designed to support students in meeting core program abilities as well as entry level competencies and standards of practice.Role Qualifications & Expectations: The successful candidate must hold a Master of Nursing Degree or Masters Degree in a related field, PhD is an asset. Clinical expertise in acute care is required and experience in medical/surgical or specialty acute areas such as ICU is preferred. Applicants must be comfortable with and willing to take on clinical teaching inother clinical practice areas that may include community and/or chronic/long term care. The successful candidate will be involved with both remote and in-person classroom, clinical and laboratory/simulated teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate programs; travel may be required to support teaching and learning at other sites. The role will include leading and supporting student learning within in-person and virtual environments at our remote sites. Experience using various advanced technologies to support teaching and learning is an asset, and a demonstrated ability to teach effectively in-person and via virtual platforms is expected. Given that all programming is delivered in English, strong proficiency in the English language (spoken and written) is required. Service within the university and the community is expected and the successful applicant will actively participate in governance and decision-making within the Faculty of Nursing. Scholarly and/or research work contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning is an expectation of this role.
The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB) and be registered prior to beginning this appointment. International applications should include evidence of completion of Stages 1 and 2 of the NANB registration process.
