Faculty of Health, Limited Term at Instructor Rank (3-year term / .5FTE)

The School of Health Administration in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a three-year, part-time (.5FTE) limited term faculty position at the Instructor rank.

Dalhousie University is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 faculties. Current enrollment is 18,500 graduate and undergraduate students. As part of Canada’s U15 research-intensive group, Dalhousie University is an influential driver of the region’s intellectual, social and economic development. The Faculty of Health’s faculty, staff and students are committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities and populations through diverse health programming, collaborative research and strong community partnerships. The Faculty of Health is one of the largest faculties at Dalhousie, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and approximately 3,000 students. The successful candidate will be required to annually teach up to four asynchronous, online undergraduate courses, including courses focused on Emergency Medical Services Management, and have responsibility for course development, delivery, student engagement and all aspects of student assessment. The candidate will be a proven leader with the ability to coordinate the day to day management of the undergraduate programs in the School of Health Administration including development of any new credit and non-credit courses or program. The candidate is expected to become an active and engaged member of the School, Faculty of Health, and the University. Activities at local, national, and international levels are expected to promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning at Dalhousie. There is no expectation of a research workload associated with this position.

Applicants must have a Masters’ degree in Health Administration (MHA), or Masters in a related discipline. A PhD in a related discipline is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in emergency medical services health and/or medical management (quality improvement, human resources, systems design, communication in emergency situations) is essential. A minimum of five years related work experience in health and/or medical management is required. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. A demonstrated passion for learning and teaching in emergency health and/or medical management along with proficiency with online

teaching is required, as is expertise with at least one Learning Management System (e.g. Brightspace). Health leadership qualification such as Certified Health Executive (CHE) or Lean Six Sigma is an asset as is a relevant health profession qualification (e.g. Paramedic). Knowledge of hospital and/or community crises management would be an asset. Work at a senior or policy level would be an asset, as would front line emergency care. Demonstrated ability to develop courses and curricula in health and/or medical management is a strong asset as is experience with program coordination or administration. Teaching experience at the postsecondary level and evidence of teaching excellence is a strong asset. A minimum of five years’ such experience is preferred.
