Part-Time Instructor Hiring Ad — Sociology — Spring 2023

The Sociology Department at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes applications for a part-time, non-tenure stream position teaching Sociology 1448 Working Women, a writing-intensive course. Position appointment may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Our undergraduate program teaches diverse students to apply the powerful analytical tools of the sociological lens to understand ourselves, our interactions, and group settings – from families, “frenemies,” and small groups to institutions, complex organizations, nations, and the world system. We value flexible teachers who can create engaging and responsible courses. We are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching fires students’ sociological imaginations.

Responsibilities: In the Spring 2023 term, starting 9 January 2023, we seek an outstanding instructor to teach SOC 1448 – Working Women MW 4:30-5:45, with 18 students. This is a writing-intensive course.

MA degree in Sociology or related field with teaching experience required. Preferred qualifications include earned doctorate; a record of strong academic performance; the ability to develop engaging courses that meet established learning goals; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; and a demonstrated ability to interact efficiently with diverse people in a dynamic higher education environment.
