Cedarville University seeks an Assistant Professor of Sociology or Criminal Justice within the Department of History and Government. The position is tenure track eligible. Expertise in Criminology is strongly preferred. Applicants with the ability to teach quantitative or qualitative methods, or those able to offer a course in Cultural Anthropology, are especially encouraged to apply. All candidates will be responsible for a general education course in Introduction to Sociology, as well as upper-level offerings within their area of expertise. Candidates will be asked to teach from a distinctively Christian worldview.
Additional expectations include academic advising, committee membership and professional activity, scholarly activity in the field, university service, maintaining academic credentials and discipline-specific research/methodology/pedagogy, maintaining a working knowledge of biblical texts and appropriate discipline-specific biblical integration. The teaching load is twenty-four semester hours per year (two semesters).
This position is subject to the University’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and Cedarville University policies, including the successful completion of a criminal history investigation. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. This position is pending budget approval.
Position Requirements:
- Terminal degree: PhD (ABD candidates will be considered) in Sociology or Criminal Justice, or M.A. in Sociology or Criminal Justice with relevant career experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Documented successful teaching and scholarship experience
- Committed to biblical integration in and out of the classroom
- Qualified applicant must be a born-again Christian with a personal commitment to Jesus Christ
