Climate/Environmental Justice Searches

John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York seeks to hire three scholars focused broadly on the issues of climate and environmental justice including those with expertise in the areas of environmental justice, indigenous environmental impacts, climate impacts, adaptation disparities, climate resilience, and other areas. We seek to hire three individuals, one senior scholar at the Associate or Full Professor rank, one junior scholar at the Assistant Professor rank, and one Lecturer. This is a cross-program initiative and the search committee contains representation from multiple departments including Public Management, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Interdisciplinary Studies, our Program in Environmental Justice, and our Office for the Advancement of Research. Departmental appointments for both professorial lines will be based on the specialty areas of the successful candidates, and appointment of the Lecturer will be in our Interdisciplinary Studies Department. Scholars with demonstrated expertise in a relevant field, a successful history of collaboration and working across boundaries, and a record of publication will be highly competitive. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the College through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.

Appointed faculty must be excellent teachers with plans to contribute to the growth and expansion of our Environmental Justice program. The two professorial hires must also be outstanding researchers, with a commitment to incubating a college project/research center focused on Climate Justice and Equity. While these hires will be based in an appropriate academic department, they will be expected to collaborate as a cohort, contributing to college initiatives, and engaging others within our community. We are currently searching for one individual at each of three ranks.

Salaries range from $ 69,983 to $ 129,310 depending on the position rank.
