Mandatory Position
This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position The position is considered to be a fully functioning in painting. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be given the opportunity to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks are concentrated in painting, but may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components in assigned buildings.
Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties The Facility Maintenance Technician – Building Trades performs under the direction of the Renovations supervisor.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Provide career tracks including but not limited to Cabinetmaking, Carpentry, Locksmith, Masonry, Painting, Plastering, and Roofing that perform a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled to highly skilled.
2. Apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to trade.
3. Conduct maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and knowledge of and adherence to safety policies and regulations.
4. Serve as lead technician and/or crew leader, directing the work of others.
Other Work Responsibilities 1. Position is considered to be fully functioning in construction.
2. This position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the journey level.
3. Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education 1. Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
2. Ability to follow applicable building codes.
3. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
4. Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communications, however, excellent communication skills are preferred.
5. Computer literate.
6. Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
7. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
8. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants, and the entire campus community.
9. Valid driver’s license required. The FM Tech Mechanical Trades operates assigned vehicles on and/or off-campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
10. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, license, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
