Job Summary
The provision of technical support, maintenance, and repairs of facilities/equipment at HLI research centre.
Organizational Status
Working with staff and faculty involved with HLI research centre. Report and coordinate with the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
Work Performed
Tasks related to the function and operation of the HLI research centre’s equipment and facilities. Such as trouble shooting and repairs of the facilities and equipment. Maintenance tasks as per maintenance scheduling. Coordinate with external contractors for facilities access and repairs. The coordination of deliveries and the setup of new equipment. Assist the Facilities Maintenance Manager or Technicians with project coordination, general tasks, or special projects as required. Assist with the instruction of students and staff of safe/standard operating procedures of equipment. Research and obtain parts for equipment in need of repair. Interpretation of technical drawings/schematics. Maintain a database of equipment service contracts and warranties.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors could potentially jeopardize research projects, equipment and personal safety.
Supervision Received
Supervision will be provided by the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
Supervision Given
Supervision will be provided when necessary to any staff/faculty of the HLI research centre involving relevant equipment operation and safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
– Maintenance and mechanical knowledge of facilities including mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical, Heating and Air conditioning, refrigeration, structural construction, Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems.
– Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to proficiently learn new concepts, and technical procedures.
– Diligence, meticulousness and organizational skills.
– Self Starter and the ability to multi-task.
– Able to lift 50 lbs.
– Knowledge of Laboratory safety and some knowledge of Laboratory procedures and protocols.
– WHMIS knowledge.
– Refrigeration and Freezer maintenance and repair knowledge.
– Mechanically inclined.
