The Institute of Theatre Studies at Free University Berlin combines the disciplines of theatre, dance, film, music, and culture and media management, providing a range of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
The Institute of Theatre Studies offers an international and interdisciplinary research environment, which includes various clusters of excellence, collaborative research centres, and graduate schools. The institute houses its own library, a media department, and extensive archives within its theatre and dance collections, providing abundant resources for students and scholars.
The post is part of the Section of critical dance studies. Research and teaching engage with interdisciplinary, theoretically informed, and historically wide-ranging approaches to cultures of dance. The Master’s programme in critical dance studies is currently in the process of being transformed into a course that is taught in English.
Jobdescription:
– Research on an independent postdoctoral project and contribution to the research culture of the Institute of Theatre Studies especially in the field of dance studies
– Teaching and assessment in the Institute’s Bachelor programme in theatre studies and the Master’s programme in critical dance studies
– Contribution to the coordination and course design of the Master programme in critical dance studies
– Selective administrative duties for the Master programme in critical dance studies
– The position is meant to enable the holder to undertake a sustained project of research that qualifies them for a successful academic career
Requirements:
PhD in dance studies; alternatively, PhD in theatre studies or adjacent fields, with a focus on dance
Desirable:
– Publication record in interdisciplinary, theory-informed dance studies
– Research interests in decolonial and/or queer approaches and in dance culture before 1900
– Excellent knowledge of English (C2 GER) and good proficiency in German (B2 GER)
– Experience in project management and academic editing
– Ability to work in a team
