Context
Task description
Main responsibilities entail operationalizing, and implementing various external relations activities for the Center, particularly:
• communications & advocacy work;
• private sector engagement, including on Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs); and
• organization of various regional & international meetings for the Center
The UNV must be able to multi-task and possess practical skills on communications, partnerships, and events organization for UN WOMEN. In particular, the UNV must be able to creatively and strategically design, operationalize, and implement various communications activities, partnership events, and domestic as well as international meetings for the Center throughout the year.
The UNV will work closely with other UN Women offices—including Country Offices in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as regional and HQ colleagues. The UNV must possess technical skills for communications and possess necessary diplomatic skills and sound judgment. Last but not least, the UNV needs to have outstanding communications skills in both Korean and English, so as to support various communications and partnership work of the Center with the Korean as well as international partners.
As the Centre is a small team, the UNV is expected to provide support to all aspects of the external relations work along with overall programme delivery of the Center. The consultant is expected to have an independent, problem-solving mindset, with proactive attitude to overcome any operational challenges along the way, by working closely with all members of the Center.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Key Performance Indicators:
• As an active Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to [Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality] and its beneficiaries in the
accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
• High quality communications products both in English and Korean are designed and produced, under the guidance of the Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality as well as the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific;
• High-impact events such as forums, workshops and advocacy activities on various topics are well organized in close collaboration with Korean as well as international partners and stakeholders;
• Partnerships with members of the media, government, diplomatic community, and private sector built and maintained for delivery of UN Women’s work, including on Women’s Empowerment Principles;
• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
