Exploring Generative AI, Memory, and Language Understanding

About the Project

Are you fascinated by the interplay between artificial intelligence, memory mechanisms, and language comprehension? Do you aspire to push the boundaries of generative models and advance our understanding of human-like cognition? We invite applications for a PhD position in the innovative field of exploring generative AI, memory, and language understanding.

Project Overview:

The intersection of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), Memory, and Language Understanding presents a compelling avenue for unravelling the complexities of human cognition. This innovative project delves into the synergy between Generative AI techniques and our understanding of memory and language processing, aiming to shed light on fundamental questions about how humans encode, store, and retrieve information. By leveraging advanced AI algorithms and insights from cognitive science, we seek to develop novel approaches for generating realistic and contextually rich outputs that mimic human-like memory and language understanding.

Key Objectives:

  • Investigate the cognitive processes involved in human memory encoding, storage, and retrieval, and identify parallels that can be leveraged in the development of generative AI models.
  • Explore the impact of different memory architectures on language understanding and generation tasks, aiming to elucidate how memory mechanisms contribute to the coherence and contextuality of generated text.
  • Develop novel generative AI architectures that integrate memory mechanisms to enable more contextually rich and realistic language generation.
  • Collaborate with experts in machine learning, cognitive science, and linguistics to validate findings and bridge the gap between artificial and human intelligence.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at academic conferences, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in relevant fields.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (2:1 or above) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or related disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Understanding of research methodologies and experimental design.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and deep learning techniques.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in Generative AI research or cognitive neuroscience.
  • Knowledge of memory and language processing theories and models.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a passion for exploring the intersection of AI, Memory, and Language Understanding.

Funding Information:

  • Full stipend and tuition fee coverage at the home rate for eligible students.
  • Additional funding opportunities for training, networking, and development.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should email Dr. Yashar Moshfeghi () and include the following attachments:

  • Cover letter detailing contact information, motivation, background, and proposed research direction (max 3 pages).
  • Up-to-date CV.
  • Transcripts and certificates of all degrees.
  • Two references, one academic.

Contact Dr. Yashar Moshfeghi to express interest. Applications will be processed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and the hiring process will conclude as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.
