Stichting Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) is currently seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Project Management team.


Job description

The position

The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the smooth and successful implementation and monitoring progress of several externally funded projects and programs, for ensuring timely reporting on their scientific and financial progress as well as overseeing all financial, administrative, and contractual obligations. The will be one the projects managed in this position.  

AIGHD is an interdisciplinary research institute. It follows that also the projects implemented by AIGHD are of a wide research variety in the areas of biomedical and laboratory research, social science as well as health economics. These projects are overseen by a project team that consists of at least a scientific project leader and a project manager. They work closely together with scientific, financial, and other staff members to successfully implement and complete the project. The project manager will join our project management team and collaborate with our scientific staff towards successful support of the projects. At the same time, the project manager will use the operational knowledge of project implementation in assisting project leaders in acquiring new projects under their lead.

Key results expected

Management of assigned projects by ensuring they are executed at the highest possible quality, while adhering to the agreed contracts, the needs, and requirements of the funding agencies and AIGHD policies, in close collaboration with the scientific project leader, other team members, support staff, and international partners.

AIGHD is fulfilling the role of Coordinator in the projects that will be managed by this project manager (the INDIGO project on Effective and Affordable Flu Vaccines for the World); this requires strong leadership, communication and coordination skills from the project management side.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Coordinate, implement and monitor the planned project activities in collaboration with project partners
  • Meet internal and external reporting requirements, including milestones and deliverables, within agreed timelines
  • Administer project finances timely and transparently according to internal and donor regulations, in close collaboration with the Finance and Control team
  • Prepare reports, both internal and external
  • Maintain financial overview / budget monitoring
  • Act as the contact point for funding institutions, partner organisations and stakeholders in project implementation
  • Coordinate project related logistical arrangements and procurement
  • Plan meetings and ensure meeting reports (minutes) are available and distributed
  • Assisting in the preparation of research proposals for funding opportunities (acquisition), in particular:
    • Support the operational, financial, and administrative aspects of research proposals
    • Draft underlying project budget
    • Assist in writing of research proposals, where appropriate

Requirements

  • Academic background (MSc level)
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in scientific and administrative research project management
  • Good knowledge of large consortium grant schemes (Horizon2020, Horizon Europe, EDCTP, NWA, BMGF)
  • Demonstrable experience with multi-year management of projects; experience in EU-projects with a large consortium is considered an advantage
  • Excellent planning skills, with experience in applying these in a complex and dynamic (international) context
  • Financial insight, knowledge of budget control and project administration
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team, willing to acquire and share expertise’s.
  • A flexible attitude towards workload, both in high- and low-level tasks, and able to set priorities

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months with the possibility of extension.

AIGHD offers a gross monthly salary between EUR 3.215 and EUR 4.418 (maximum) based on a fulltime contract, depending on your work experience and expertise.
