Position Summary

Representing the Residential College in Arts and Humanities (RCAH) at Michigan State University, this position will provide administrative and executive support to the Dean.  Specific job duties include, but are not limited to scheduling, coordinating and maintaining the Dean’s calendar; interacting with faculty, staff, students, community collaborators, administrators, executives, alumni, the general public and other constituents on behalf of the Dean and the College; arranging travel, preparing travel authorizations and itineraries, and processing travel reimbursements; and serving as the College-level expert on travel planning and support.  This person will also compile and analyze information; produce and assist with reports; conduct research on assigned projects and the development of new projects; communicate with leadership support staff across the University and with stakeholders of the College; coordinate major college-wide meetings and events; help administer college-level external grants; assist with Advancement needs; and perform other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of the College and the University. The position is in-person, with up-to one day of remote work per week.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education with course work in word processing, typing, shorthand, and grammar; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive University work experience in maintaining account ledgers, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software; editing, composing correspondence, experience with scheduling, procuring travel arrangements, and event planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in arts, humanities, business, education or related field; experience with Enterprise Business Systems including SAP, Kuali Financial System, and Business Intelligence; experience with Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook; experience with Adobe Acrobat; proficient in the use of both MAC and PC operating systems; ability to manage complex schedules; ability to work independently and with the confidence to take initiative and be proactive; sensitivity to and appropriate handling of confidential information; detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy, resourcefulness, and efficiency; excellent grammar, editing, and professional writing skills. 

In addition, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with varied constituents in a timely, courteous, and professional manner; ability to interact with individuals; a work orientation that includes a focus on service, problem-solving, collaborative teamwork, adaptability to change, a positive attitude, and a desire for continuous learning.

This individual should understand the complex needs and workflow of a small, undergraduate college at a large University.
