Executive Director of the Senseable City Lab

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP)-Senseable City Lab (SCL), to provide strategic and operational leadership across all functions (i.e., HR, financial, and general operations) and assume broad responsibility for planning, shaping, directing, and executing SCL’s mission. SCL is a multidisciplinary research group investigating how digital technologies are changing the way people live and their implications at the urban scale.  Will serve as SCL’s spokesperson and convey a compelling mission/message for the lab that will inspire excellence and galvanize support from key constituents; raise significant financial support within the lab’s consortium funding structure and support the development of sponsored funding opportunities; and forge partnerships with faculty, administrators, and leaders in industry, municipal governments, and other organizations.  Other responsibilities include developing strategy for and leading efforts to identify potential consortium members and stewarding current members; identifying sponsored research opportunities and managing research proposal development; coordinating/executing communications strategy and outreach activities; overseeing planning and execution of special projects; collaborating on oversight of budget development, financial planning/forecasting, and reporting; and performing a variety of other duties.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in management, finance, human resources, or other relevant field; five years’ relevant experience; experience managing a growing interdisciplinary organization; understanding of academic, industry, and nonprofit environments; evidence of fundraising success; excellent leadership, analytical, program management, financial, problem-solving, interpersonal, listening, and writing skills; strategic approach to responsibilities; ability to understand, communicate, and present complex technical information to a variety of audiences; collaborative/cooperative working style; and ability to work with a diverse community. PREFERRED:  master’s degree and experience in an academic, research, foundation, or nonprofit environment.  Job #20986-9
