Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:

Position purpose: 
Ensures legal compliance and safeguards a positive student experience by consulting on and investigating civil rights complaints primarily consisting of disability, race, and sex discrimination or harassment claims. 
Responsible for properly documenting reports, interviewing students and staff, drafting investigative reports, assessing relevant evidence, and adhering to statutory timelines. Provides consult to students and staff on civil rights violations identification, reporting, investigation, and resolution. Develops data driven civil rights best practices that meet federal, state, and University compliance requirements. Plans and facilitates programming, training, and events. Works closely with the department’s leadership team to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery to students
1. Primarily responsible for conducting civil rights investigations to ensure legal compliance by interviewing faculty, staff, and students, documenting procedural steps, assessing credibility, acting as fact finder, and drafting formal investigative reports.   
2. Consults with administration, faculty/staff, and students on civil rights violations regarding identification, reporting, investigation, and resolution. 
3. Participates in dispute resolution efforts including written responses, mediation, and informal dispute resolution.
4. Stays abreast of changing legal requirements and nationwide best practices for civil rights in the Higher Education context.   
5. Collects, prepares, and maintains data for to ensure legal reporting requirements are met. Helps to create data driven best practices and procedures.  
6. Plans and coordinates continuing mandatory and optional programming, training, events, and professional development opportunities.

Required Education Education: Juris Doctorate or Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration or related field.
Required Experience 2 years experience with Civil Rights and/or general investigative experience preferred. Experience working in the education context preferred.
