Equipment Engineer (R&D – Equipment)



Job Description
  • Ensure daily start-up, recipe conditioning, shut down of lab equipment, and attend to operational issues to enable smooth usage of the equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate response to breakdown of critical equipment and support R&D activities.
  • Ensure 24/7 operation of lab equipment with equipment usage monitoring (on EPIC) and provide necessary support to the researchers. Uptime of lab equipment (with BKM process) should be greater than 90% each month and timely update the database (EPIC) with lab equipment status.
  • Identify, plan and implement preventive maintenance (PM) to support continual improvements of operational efficiency and process control such as monitor deposition before and after PM.
  • Liaise with equipment vendors and internal procurement, finance, OSHE and facilities management teams where needed.
  • Coordinate and supervise vendors/contractors to work on equipment upgrade/ retrofitting/ hook-up related jobs.
  • Review vendor/contractor’s risk assessment, statement of work and apply Permit-To-Work.
  • Plan and provide operational support for R&D that include design improvement, de/installation, testing and commissioning of equipment.
  • Maintain proper documentations and procedures for R&D equipment operation including Standard Operational Procedures, Work Instructions and Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure timely and effective execution of equipment-related service contracts by service providers to preserve and extend equipment service life.
  • Comply and initiate improvement programs for Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) and Quality requirements for R&D equipment.
  • Provide expert level technical support and continual improvement through towards robustness and manufacturing worthiness; with focus in meeting operation efficiencies and EHS.
  • Support facilities management team in managing equipment, chemicals, gases, consumables and other matters for existing or new equipment.
  • Provide equipment training as required to new staff/students joining the organization.
  • Examples of processing tools the candidate may operate and/or manage: wet-chemical tools, tube furnaces, ion implanter, inline PECVD, sputtering, evaporation, ALD, versatile laser tool, screen-printing machine, firing furnace, inline plating tool, metrology, etc.
  • Assist the group with processing and metrology services for various industry-funded and public-funded projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree preferred, Diploma in Engineering or equivalent with minimum of 5 years experience in R&D equipment, preferably working in a cleanroom environment
  • Good technical knowledge of Solar Photovoltaic R&D or manufacturing equipment, or similar equipment in related industries (display, microelectronics, etc). Equipment management experience with industrial PECVD, PVD and/or ALD tools is highly preferred. Experience with wet-chemistry tools (texturing, single-side etch) is a bonus.
  • Knowledge in ISO 9001/14001 and OHSAS 18001 will be an added advantage.
  • Strong communication, holistic organizational planning and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage equipment vendors/contractors.
  • Team player, proactive with good interpersonal skills.
  • Possesses working knowledge of MS Office tools required (excel, word, power point).
