Purpose

Position will work with the Engagement and Performance Operations Center team at TACC and will interact with internal and external partners in a broad variety of settings to assist end users to make data transfers more effective through the use of advanced measurement and monitoring tools and data architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Works with internal and external partners to plan and evaluate capacity and performance requirements of complex network and data movement systems to ensure the infrastructure meets subscribed needs.
  • Determines how to meet changing requirements while ensuring reliability within the full data architecture.
  • Works with internal and external partners to evaluate and address routing of data on a national and international scale.
  • Works with internal and commercial tools to understand and evaluate measured network traffic. Conducts complex studies of data architecture operations (which may include networks, systems, and policy issues) and recommend changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Do user requirements gathering for NetSage measurement and monitoring infrastructure and work with team to implement changes to address user needs
  • Deploy the NetSage infrastructure in joint efforts with domestic partners.
  • Performs in-depth end-to-end data transfer performance analysis and designs solutions to optimize performance
  • Works closely with network performance tool developers to implement new features and suggest future development

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer and information science or other applied science
  • At least 3 years of applied research experience
  • Significant experience with Grafana and ELK stack, both in terms of development and deployment
  • Hands on experience understanding network flow data, understanding changes of network flow behaviors, and identifying flow and routing anomalies
  • Proven work with extended suite of external partners
  • Ability to speak publicly regarding technical and advocacy issues
  • Ability to train local, regional, national, and international partners in network performance analysis and problem mitigation techniques.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with NetSage, perfSONAR, RouteViews, and other R&E networking tools

Salary Range

$100,000 + depending on qualifications
