The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics. We are excited to announce a New Grad Rotational Program. The program objective is to provide new graduates with an overview through three 1-year rotations which may include positions in Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and New Product Introduction. This program offers the opportunity to have exposure through cross-functional teamwork and to gain experience and knowledge that will help grow your career with Abbott. Through customized, onboarding and training, regularly scheduled check-in meetings, feedback from your new “rotation assignment” leader, and ongoing mentorship you will be supported as you integrate and progress through rotational assignments.

What You’ll Do

Responsible for planning and conducting small-sized assigned projects requiring conventional types of plans, investigations and/or equipment.

Participate and/or assist other engineers/scientists in project tasks by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques.

Apply standard engineering and scientific principles and methodologies to interpret problems.

create/modify designs, draw conclusions and recommend options for solutions.

Responsible for completing documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with business standards.

Participate in cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.

Understand and comply with applicable Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Responsible for implementing and maintaining effectiveness of Quality System.

Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Less than one year experience in an engineering role.

Undergraduate University Degree in Engineering or Science with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Co-op and/or internship experience in a related field an asset.

Successful record of challenging Engineering/Science and related coursework.

Strong business/technical judgment and problem-solving skills.

Leadership skills demonstrated through extracurricular activities.

Self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Must be prepared to add value in all rotational assignments, and subsequent positions at the program’s completion.

Must present a professional, positive image that reflects well on the company.

Ability to analyze and interpret data and document conclusions.

Analytical skills, creativity and innovative approach to problem solving.

Ability to determine required analysis to make practical, objective decisions about the best solutions to problems.

Coordinating and planning skills, leadership and team skills, ability to convert strategy into results.

Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; able to deal effectively with people on all organizational levels and work in a team environment across departments.
