Description of Work Unit University Advancement Engagement at Colorado State University is seeking an Engagement & Events Manager.

As a part of University Advancement, the University Advancement Engagement team advances the relationships, strategic messages, branding, and fundraising goals of Colorado State University through the design of events, activities, communications and experiences designed to tell the University’s story. The department provides leadership to the University in the creation of engagement strategies for alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students and friends, and manages hundreds of projects annually to inspire lifelong loyalty to CSU.
Position Summary The Engagement & Events Manager manages all aspects of virtual and in-person programs and events designed to promote CSU’s fundraising goals and strengthen relationships with University alumni and donors. The Manager is responsible for developing engagement strategies and tactics to capture and retain donor commitment. The Manager works with internal and external partners to provide expert guidance, employing industry best practices in utilizing programs and events as cultivation opportunities in order to meet University fundraising goals. In addition, the Manager is responsible for the entire program management cycle from inception to completion, ensuring an excellent, inclusive guest experience and campus partner satisfaction. The Engagement and Events Manager will infuse diversity, and inclusion into all aspects of their role to contribute to inclusive excellence and to ensure colleagues and donors of all backgrounds feel represented and included.
Required Job Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by employment start date
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in professional event management
• Ability to frequently lift up to 25 lbs. with or without tools or assistance to complete such tasks as moving and setting up event related equipment and supplies, such as linens, tableware, decorations, and other related items.
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required by event schedules
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date
• Demonstrates active engagement and support of diverse individuals, opinions and perspectives, and actively engages with and supports the university’s mission, vision and values

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Program Design, Execution and Evaluation
Duty/Responsibility •Perform analysis and offer recommendations for improving programs, events and activities to Directors of Development, the Managing Director of Strategic Engagement and the Assistant Vice President of Engagement.
• Identify target audiences and develop appropriate messaging strategies that showcase the value and impact of philanthropy.
• Interact regularly with donors, alumni, and University leaders.
• Design, develop, and implement concepts and ideas for purpose-driven virtual and in-person events. Oversee all event operations, including but not limited to: securing space and/or determining virtual platforms, independently negotiating terms and contracts with vendors, managing the project budget, developing communications and marketing items, directing and coordinating technical and production aspects, making final decisions regarding event logistics and managing the overall guest experience. Manage the event in the live environment.
• Stay informed about virtual and in-person event best practices based on event purpose and scope. Independently discover and learn about new technology as it evolves.
• Responsible for risk management assessment and protocol implementation for every event to ensure safety and comfort for event attendees. Adhere to risk management processes as they relate to security and alcohol/food vendor approval, and collaborate with Environmental Health Services and CSU Police Department when appropriate.
• Evaluate the success of each project using quantitative and qualitative data, measuring it against the identified purpose and across viable channels. Share results with involved partners and with the Engagement team. Benchmark results against other projects and make recommendations about recommended areas for improvement and/or change.
• Examine events, programming, and communications with a lens of diversity and inclusion for the audience, ensuring that the event welcomes guests from all backgrounds and is representative of various identities.

Job Duty Category Establish and Maintain Campus-Wide Relationships
Duty/Responsibility • Manage campus partner relationships, including relationships with Directors of Development, Deans, Cabinet members, major gift donors, alumni, and other University leadership. Use cultural competencies and a lens of inclusive excellence to develop relationships with partners of various identities and backgrounds.
• Conceive and implement engagement strategies designed to move donors along the giving continuum and help realize CSU’s philanthropic goals.
• Direct and solve a variety of challenges on a daily basis, including negotiating between competing priorities and creating alignment between expectations and available resources.
• Ability and authority to adjust plans quickly and confidentially within an unpredictable environment when unforeseen circumstances, such as technology, weather and vendor challenges, arise.
• Identify and understand campus partner needs and priorities, proactively providing solutions to accelerate partner’s ability to achieve results.
• Participate in strategic annual planning cycle to provide guidance around best practices in engagement activities to meet desired outcomes.

Duty/Responsibility • Responsible for developing and managing budgets that range from $10,000 – $100,000, for all programs within the portfolio.
• Oversee logistics and devise creative solutions to accomplish goals while maintaining integrity of the budget.
• Negotiate and manage all aspects of contractual commitments in accordance with University and State regulations.
• Articulate and acknowledge the impact each budget has on the fiscal responsibilities of CSU Events, University Advancement, campus partners and the University at large
