Mission:The mission of Career Exploration & Education (CxED) at the University of Toronto St. George campus is to engage students to develop self-directed career management skills through partnership with (a) faculty, to connect academic and career learning; (b)alumni and employers, to develop informational and experiential networks and opportunities; and (c) our campus community, to embed career support locally to meet diverse student needs.

Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Lead Coordinator, Employer Recruitment & Engagement and working with other members of Career Exploration & Education, the Employer Strategy & Engagement Specialist will be responsible for building and cultivating relationships with employers, alumni, and campus partners with a focuson recruitment and networking activities through the lens of equity, diversity and inclusion. This includes providing outstanding service delivery to professionals across a wide spectrum of industry sectors, by ascertaining both their immediate and long-term needs for recruiting and connecting with U of T students and recent alumni. Based on these needs, the incumbent will focus on increasing opportunities for meaningful engagement and recruitment between employers and underrepresented students (Black students, Indigenous students, International students) while also recognizing the intersections within diverse communities (gender, sexuality, and disability). The Employer Strategy & Engagement Specialist will conduct business development and employer recruitment for the purposes of career, educational programming, and employment development in a manner which seeks to remove barriers for underrepresented individuals and groups.

The incumbent will lead the business development, proactive recruitment and partnership building with new employers who wish to recruit and engage University of Toronto students across all faculties and years for employment, educational and co-curricular programming purposes. This would also include navigating them through the UofT career ecosystem, making effective referrals to campus career and co-op offices, facilitating educational workshops, posting opportunities and hosting events such as employer information sessions, networking events and career panels, in addition to supporting CxED wide events, activities and programming.

The role will also include outreach to partnering organizations with strong Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and AODA mandates to increase career and employment opportunities, support and empower equity deserving students and students with disabilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers
  • Analyzing and recommending actions to increase employers’ visibility
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Developing learning outcomes for workshops and/or services
  • Evaluating learning outcomes for program development
  • Determining key performance indicators to measure success
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing program activities

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in a university career centre, co-op or recruitment setting, developing and maintaining relationships, including active outreach.
  • Experience managing effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders (including employers, alumni, students, staff and faculty).
  • Experiencewith the development, facilitation and assessment of workshops and educational programming.
  • Experience in employer development and knowledge of best-practices; developing, coordinating and implementing large scale programs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and equity-deserving students, with a focus on intersectionality.
  • Proven ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and independently prioritize own workflow.
  • Strong relationship cultivation, building and management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills to cope with multiple projects and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods.
  • Able to manage conflicting demands, and be able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Customer service-oriented.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to source information and data using the Internet and social media sites such as LinkedIn.
  • Strong written communication skills (e.g. report writing; drafting content for marketing materials) and the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse university student population in order to meet the needs of students.
  • Broad knowledge of labour market trends.
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and work environment.
  • Demonstrated investment in creating equity, equitable access, and inclusive engagement, including the ability to collaborate with Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) and students who identify with a disability, employer, and campus partners.

USW Pay Band 11 — $73,748 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $94,310. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
