Saïd Business School, at the heart of Oxford University, is one of the world’s leading business schools with a vibrant community and an innovative approach to teaching, research, and collaboration. 

With the arrival of Professor Soumitra Dutta as the Schools’ new Dean, and new a Chief Operating Officer, Manos Kapterian, an ambitious new School five-year plan has recently been agreed and Oxford Saïd is entering an exciting new phase in its evolution. Securing increased levels of philanthropic income and deep levels of alumni engagement will be a critical element in the successful delivery of the new strategy.

In November 2022, the School also welcomed Kate Foley as Director of Development and Alumni Relations, who together with an expanded Development and Alumni team and support from across the School will lead the School’s efforts and delivery in this area.

About the Role:

The Elumni Community Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the elumni community and ensuring the goals are achieved. This includes inspiring the community, providing support, moderating user generated content, overseeing community content, overseeing events, and identifying business development opportunities. The job holder will also set measurable targets to increase the community engagement and review and revise the engagement strategy on a regular basis, as well as produce related operational plans and reports.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Alumni and Supporter Engagement, and line managing the Events Officer, the Elumni Community Manager plays an important role in growing this vibrant community of online programme participants.

Working across several teams in the School, this role is a truly collaborative function, responsible for implementing   the engagement strategy. The job holder will play a key role in linking and creatively combining different areas of digital activity in the School and be at the heart of an exciting expansion of digital working at Oxford Saïd.

Some of the key responsibilities:

Community strategy

• Implement the elumni engagement strategy and plans to deliver the School’s cross/up sales, research support and fundraising objectives, in collaboration with various teams across the Business School including the wider External Relations Team, in particular.

• Manage the development of the online networking platform, growing the membership base. Aim for 90% of current participants registering within 4 weeks of receiving their certificate and 50% of historical elumni registering by 2015.

•  Maximise engagement on the elumni community platform ensuring an insightful, stimulating value-adding experience. Working with Alumni Relations Team more widely to share best practice and achieve a consistent approach with community engagement.

•  Implement an agreed set of evaluation measures and produce regular analytics and insight reports for the Associate Director of Alumni and Supporter Engagement and the Senior Leadership Group.

•  Build strategic relationships with Oxford-based societies, in collaboration with the Associate Director, Clients and Markets.

Community management, moderation & networking

•   To drive a strategic content plan using a carefully mapped editorial calendar, in collaboration with colleagues in Central Marketing.

•   Moderate content, facilitate interaction and actively engage with elumni to encourage participation and discussion on the networking platform.

•   Review community comments and posts in a quick and timely manner.

•   Respond to comments in order to foster a positive community and add value to our community members’ experience.

•   Participate in relevant conversations related to the School’s programmes and services.

•   Escalate possible issues or concerns to internal stakeholders.

•   Manage the community champions programme including recognition and support.

•   Build excellent relationships at scale with elumni through the digital platform and in-person interaction.

•   Leverage the elumni community and platform as a hub for floating new programme related ideas in terms of new product development, new themes for programmes (e.g., Space Commerce) and market research.

•   Maximise potential of elumni community to give back to the School including in volunteer and supporter capacity, working closely with Regular Giving Manager and Development colleagues.

•   Facilitate faculty research initiatives via interviews and surveys.
