Electrician

An opportunity has arisen at Trinity College for a JIB Approved Grade (or equivalent) electrician to join the Works Department, which consists of electricians, carpenters, plumbers, builders, decorators, and general maintenance assistants. The team provides maintenance and support for the services and upkeep of the buildings on an extensive, historic site in the centre of Cambridge.

The main duties of the role involve responding in a timely manner to reactive and planned maintenance tasks, provided by the Senior Electrical Engineer or Help Desk, providing progress or status updates in line with Department Service Level Agreements.

As a JIB grade approved electrician or equivalent, you must be able to work both alone or as part of a team using excellent practical and technical skill sets.  You should have experience and confidence in the use of Electrical and IT test equipment required for testing, verifying, certifying, and signing off works undertaken. You will be recording your findings on the database and be able to certify to either all appropriate current industry and statutory standards or codes of practice, which include but are not limited to the current IET wiring regulations in line with any particular College specification or standards.

Candidates should have experience of working within a buildings maintenance environment and be experienced at completing cable repairs, including underground armoured and MICC, LV BUS control and data.

You should possess basic IT skills such as the use of emails, record keeping and smartphone technology. Candidates should be adaptable, able to use their own initiative within set parameters, and be able to respond to emergencies.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential together with the ability to work flexibly as part of a team sharing ideas and experiences.

The work includes climbing staircases, accessing awkward areas and walking/cycling between areas across the extensive site. The job holder must be comfortable working at height and should be able to use a cycle (provided) to transport themselves and tools around College and its surrounding sites.

Salary £33,544 per annum. In addition to the salary, we offer a benefits package, which includes contributory pension scheme, private health and dental care, subsidised gym and free lunch whilst on duty (subject to eligibility).
