About the Role

The Educational Technologist provides technical support and training for academic and professional staff at Melbourne Law School (MLS), particularly in relation to educational technologies used in the University’s Learning Management System Canvas. 

The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong background in educational technologies such as Canvas, Echo360, Kaltura, Microsoft Office suite and Zoom.  The candidate will also have experience at troubleshooting, providing and developing training and prioritising incoming queries as well as excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

This position sits in the Curriculum Development and Digital team within the Teaching and Learning team of the Academic Support Office (ASO) at MLS.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support for academic and professional staff in educational technologies and learning systems, audio visual teaching and learning, and digital literacy development.
  • Conducting regular LMS audits to ensure compliance and best practice across the School
  • Developing help guides, instructional screencasts and tips for academic staff on the use of educational technologies and learning systems

About You
You are a naturally methodical person with a strong problem-solving mindset, able to develop and implement practical and sustainable solutions as needed and contribute to quality improvement processes. Your strong organisation and prioritisation skills empower you to manage your own workload as a part of a highly productive operational team, ensuring all deadlines are met with work completed to a quality standard. You are a naturally patient person, able to liaise and support a wide range of stakeholders with different technical skills and knowledge. You will ideally have a knowledge of Canvas LMS for Teaching and Learning, as well as knowledge of other technology platforms such as Echo 360 Lecture Capture, Kaltura video, Camtasia, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Padlet, though these skills can be picked up on the job.

You will also have:

  • A relevant degree and/or equivalent proven and established experience providing technical training and advice in a higher education environment
  • High level technical skills in learning technologies, including the Office suite, learning management systems, video management and video conferencing systems and video editing suites
  • Well-developed communication skills, with the capacity to build help guides as well as design and deliver excellent technical support, coaching and training in educational technologies and other IT and learning systems.
