As part of a major expansion of its research programs, the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position.
The Faculty of Education is located on the unceded ancestral land of the Algonquin people, in the heart of Canada’s capital. It provides its education students, its education researchers, and its 60 professors with a stimulating intellectual environment. This recruitment effort is also part of the Faculty’s 2025 Strategic Plan, which focuses on innovation, educational technologies, a dynamic Francophonie, Indigenous rights, anti-racism, equity, and social justice.
Position title: Assistant professor in Educational Leadership and Policies (Francophone education sector)
Background: The Faculty of Education plays a leading role in research on education in French in Ontario and in Canada.
The incumbent will focus their knowledge mobilization and research activities on leadership among school executives and principals, and on educational policies that address issues involving inclusion, organizational justice and equity for academic success.
We are seeking candidates who can conduct research on the systemic thinking and skills of school executives and principals, the leadership practices that promote academic success among students and the well-being of all, strategic management, managing diversity and emerging problems, such as violence and disrespect in the workplace, disengagement and work-related burnout. The incumbent would also conduct research on Francophone education in minority language and multicultural settings, including issues related to immigration and the inclusion of First Nations, Inuit and Metis communities.
This research could intersect fields such as educational philosophy, policy analysis and organizational theory, and the social sciences.
We encourage applications from individuals who wish to build ties with school boards and community organizations in order to improve research and training opportunities for teaching staff, principals and education executives in Ontario, in Canada, and internationally, and who also wish to strengthen the Faculty’s interdisciplinary relations with other uOttawa faculties (faculties of Social Sciences, Arts, Science, Medicine, Health Sciences and the Telfer School of Management).
Duties: The functions of a member of the teaching staff include, to varying degrees: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities that involve research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work; c) service to the University community; and d) supervision of graduate students.
Terms: Assistant professor (leading to a tenure-track appointment)
Remuneration: Base salary for assistant professors is $89,622 (based on the scale in effect as of May 1, 2023).
