Job Title: Instructor, Masters of Education Program

The Faculty of Education is deeply committed to both the process and goal of social justice, including critical inquiry, inclusive practices, and equitable participation. We prioritize approaches, leadership and curricula that make central issues of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and disability in an effort to challenge historical and ongoing forms of oppression and marginalization in schools, communities, businesses, government agencies and society.

Title of Course: EDUC 5P41 – Early Childhood Education

Spring term D6 ASY SEC 1 Online

Overview: Professionally bring to life the content, knowledge, and competencies relevant to specific methods and foundations courses being taught. Implement curriculum and teaching approaches that engage students in conversations on educational inclusion and equity. Instructors are expected to be aware of a variety of critical practices relevant to their field/area of expertise that can support all students, attend to our unconscious biases, and encourage inclusivity.

Duties

As per standing instructor positions at Brock, instructors are responsible for student contact time and non-contact time;

Contact time includes all classes as scheduled including in-person, blended, online or other teaching formats

  • Non-classroom work may include preparation of lecture material, student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, managing and meeting with teaching assistants, and course administration as may be required
  • Attend beginning of program meeting and sessional instructor meetings (generally a total of two meetings per term)
  • Use of a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications; and
  • Complete the compulsory Brock instructor online tutorial prior to the first class (about 1 hour).
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
  • Available for individual consultation with students (e.g. office hours 1.5 hours per week)

Qualifications

1. Graduate Degree (PhD) in Early Childhood Education, Educational Studies or a related discipline.

2. Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence, official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; and/or references. Ability to work independently without immediate direct supervision. Active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking

3. Skills related to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources in the teaching of the course. Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
