The Editor supports the editorial team and Marketing/Communications department at the Wexner Center for the Arts (WCA), a multidisciplinary contemporary arts center. This role will be assigned content-related tasks on a range of institutional and programmatic projects. These tasks include formatting and fact-checking event copy before being refined by the editorial team; editing and writing image captions, image descriptions, alt text; editing and writing screen and slide copy, as well as ad and postcard/promotional flier copy as needed. This role serves as proofreader-on-call for layouts, press releases, and other WCA items. An important part of this role is effectively communicating across the center to garner feedback in a timely fashion. It is imperative that this role escalates work with appropriate sense of urgency to meet deadlines. Efficient and transparent communications skills will be needed to effectively complete tasks. The Editor will be the lead editor, proofreader, and liaison for event programs in Performing Arts, Film/Video, and Learning & Public Practice. Administrative tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting with research and office tasks, maintaining/editing program lists and history, and coordinating the internal team archive of publications materials.

Reporting to the Editor in Chief, this position will work closely with the entire Marketing/Communications team. This position will also work across the center with its programmatic areas (Exhibitions, Film/Video, Performing Arts, Learning & Public Practice) and Advancement and Visitor Experience teams.

40% – Editorial Support

  • Supports editorial team and M/C department at large with content-related tasks
  • Formats and fact-checks event copy before refining by editorial team
  • Edits/writes image captions, image descriptions, alt text
  • Edits/writes screen/slide copy, assists with other promotional copy
  • Proofreader-on-call for layouts, press releases, etc.

20% – Administration, Communication, and Workflow

  • Communicates timely event- and project-based changes to designers/producers across channels
  • Proofs/marks up layouts and escalates time-sensitive issues

20% – Oversees Select Event Program Copy

  • Lead editor, proofreader, and liaison for event programs (Exhibitions, Film/Video, Performing Arts, Learning & Public Practice)

20% – Administrative/Archival Support

  • Assists with research and office tasks as needed
  • Team archive coordinator/assistant
  • Maintains program lists and history

Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Level Degree with a major in Journalism, English, or a Humanities field such as Art History or equivalent major

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-plus years editorial work experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of visual, media and performing arts
  • Familiarity photography, graphic arts, printing, and content management systems
  • Experience working in a cross-functional, collaborative organization with a high work volume
  • Ability to tactfully provide feedback and enforce brand standards
  • Knowledge of copyright and fair use standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams. Basic knowledge of Asana or other project management software preferred.
