Department 

As Cornell University’s online learning unit, eCornell delivers online professional certificate courses to individuals and organizations around the world. Courses are personally developed by Cornell faculty with expertise in a wide range of topics, including data analytics, management, marketing, human resources, leadership, and STEM. Students learn in an interactive, small cohort format to gain skills they can immediately apply in their organizations, while earning a professional certificate from Cornell University. eCornell has offered online learning courses and certificate programs for 15 years to over 130,000 students at more than 2,000 companies.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Sr Director, Finance & Administration, this position serves as lead to the finance and business analysis team at eCornell.   This role will lead the organization towards sustainable data and reporting practices to ensure efficiencies.  This requires a macro understanding of how analytics and reporting contributes to the overall goals at eCornell and how all the pieces work together.  This role is an analytics and metrics partner for units within the Office of External Education and eCornell. This requires defining business function needs, project scoping, determining the most efficient technological tools, creating the necessary applications and documenting the processes. 

Responsibilities include using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods to build and implement dashboards, models and algorithms that can help stakeholders discover insights and optimize business outcomes. In addition, will build, and operationalize reporting tools, pull and analyze data, and create meaningful reports to drive informed, effective decisions. 

What you will do:

  • Implement and automate KPIs as set forth by the executive leadership team for all operational units and eCornell, create dashboards for easy access, review results and make recommendations on actions.

  • Lead cross functional analyst meetings to ensure shared understanding and best practices. Provide direction on system enhancements and troubleshoot problems as they arise. 

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to develop and cross train analysts to strengthen the team’s skill set.

  • Advocate for eCornell needs, partner with IT on the data structure models that will support all units within eCornell. Serve as liaison to advocate for eCornell needs.

  • Provide a solution-oriented approach to problem solving and decision making. effectively communicate with members of the IT team including data architects, programmers, and management.

  • Work with IT to translate business requirements into appropriate data models and processes.

  • Design and conduct qualitative analytical research and ad hoc queries in support of planning and decision making.

  • In partnership with departments, define reporting needs and project scope, and produce reporting that meets the partner needs. As needed, work with IT resources to assure they can provide appropriate data collection and systems solutions for the business need.

  • Develop complex analytical models, tables, graphs, dashboards and summary reports to support data collection methods from multiple complex sources to provide business insight and inform decision-making.

  • Analyze the data produced from multiple complex source systems to ensure the data represented is accurately reflected.

  • Provide analysis, guidance, training and technical support to business partners.

  • Create dashboards and automated reporting tools to replace existing manual processes.

  • Perform data auditing (check work before publishing) as necessary to ensure data quality.

  • Recommend requirements/data quality attributes to the data model. Audit new fields for data integrity.

  • Collaborate with developers to diagnose functional problems and propose solutions.

What you will need:

  • Master’s degree in data analytics or relevant field with three (3) to five (5) years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience reflecting progressing scope of responsibility. 

  • Senior level skills at data analysis, data visualization and data preparation and management with exceptional problem-solving skills. 

  • Experience with the following software/tools/languages:

  • Experience with statistical computer languages (SQL, etc.)

  • Expert in querying databases and manipulating data across numerous complex sources to draw insights 

  • Expert in Tableau with experience creating data visualizations and dashboards

  • Expert at business analytics and spreadsheets

  • Familiarity with ETL processes and using data warehouse processes and web services such as AWS Redshift, S3, etc.

  • Expert with sales and marketing software and automation systems or digital advertising 

  • Experience in Salesforce and its data infrastructure is required

  • Outstanding interpersonal, customer service and verbal and written communication skills. Must possess the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of clients and teammates; engage with others diplomatically. 

  • Adept in a variety of financial and other software; demonstrated ability to utilize software and electronic tools to efficiently conduct tasks and synthesize work to propose process improvements. 

  • Must demonstrate a high-level of understanding of data structures and relationships; ability to use query and reporting tools, and access databases to manage complex data reporting requests; ability to access and manipulate data from a variety of computer platforms and databases.

  • Must be detail-oriented and demonstrate sound judgment, as well as able to manage competing priorities. Excellent organizational skills required.

  • Must project a professional image and demonstrate the ability to diplomatically handle a wide variety of highly confidential situations.
