Early Years PreK Teacher

Position: Early Years PK Teacher

Reports to: Principal of the Early Years Division

Terms: Permanent, Full-Time 

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Early Years Principal, the Early Years PK Teacher will prepare students for entry into Mulgrave’s Kindergarten programme. Duties encompass observing student behaviour, team collaboration for support plans, and fulfilling various duties to create an inclusive environment. Embracing the school’s mission and values and fostering an inclusive learning space are vital aspects of the role. The ideal candidate will be open-minded, flexible, and collaborative.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

These may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborating with a co-teacher, plan and implement the academic and social-emotional learning programme for a PK3 or PK4 class
  • Keep up to date with developments in the IB PYP, including teaching resources and methods
  • Participate in collaborative planning and reflection meetings
  • Foster students’ independence and self-management skills, as developmentally appropriate
  • Ensure the safety of children with special needs, including allergies, neurodivergence, and medical conditions
  • Conduct age-appropriate assessments in order to prepare report cards and conduct parent teacher conferences as per the annual school calendar
  • Be available to meet parents when requested and foster open and supportive communications between school and home
  • Assist with prospective student assessments on one or two weekend days per year
  • Perform duties such as before- and after-school care, as well as recess duty
  • Maintain regular records on the school’s Learning Management System
  • Engage in regular professional development, especially to maintain Early Childhood Certification
  • Support the school in maintaining a classroom environment that follows the regulations and meets the requirements set by Vancouver Coastal Health and the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care

All Mulgrave teachers are expected to:

  • Develop a classroom environment that builds positive relationships and fosters an ethic of care
  • Design, prepare and deliver learning activities that facilitate authentic engagement
  • Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  • Use relevant technology to enhance instruction and learning
  • Design and implement a range of authentic formative and summative assessments, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting
  • Participate in faculty and parent meetings and special events
  • Model respectful and timely communication with students, colleagues and parents
  • Attend professional development workshops as required by the school
  • Understand that working hours may occasionally extend beyond 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Endorse the school’s mission and values

Qualifications:

Candidates will be expected to:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Hold current ECE certification
  • Hold an age appropriate First Aid Certificate or be willing to obtain one.

Preferred Experience/Qualities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate programmes, preferably with experience teaching in the Primary Years Programme
  • Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment

Work hours:

  • 8:00 am – 4:00 pm with the understanding that these may occasionally extend beyond 4:00 pm (4:30 pm on club days).
  • Hours may vary slightly
  • Be available to assist with new student assessments on one or two Saturdays during the year

The base annual salary for this position is competitive and falls within the range of $56,000.00 – $69,000.00. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, and relevant experience in accordance with BC labour laws and company policies.
