THE ROLE

Mia Mia Child and Family Study Centre is the demonstration early childhood program for the School of Education at Macquarie University. We are looking for a degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher, who is passionate about early childhood education to join our team in a full time, fixed term role.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • To work in collaboration and co-teach with another Early Childhood Teacher in the 2s and 3s Room 

  • Develop and implement educational programs

  • Build and maintain respectful, equitable and ethical relationships with children and families to engage them in the program and create an inclusive environment aligned to National Quality Standards

  • Supervise, assist and engage with children to ensure their safety and wellbeing

  • To work in partnership with, mentor and guide a team of educators

  • Work in collaboration with families regarding their children’s care and education

You will be working in the 2s and 3s classroom, with joint responsibility for developing and implementing the educational program. In doing this you will work closely with other staff, children and their families. Mia Mia employs two early childhood teachers to work with each group of children and so this is a team-teaching role.

About You

You will have completed a Bachelor or Masters degree in Early Childhood Teaching with a minimum of 3 years classroom experience in the early childhood sector. You will be motivated and passionate to work with children to support the team in delivering quality, engaging play-based learning experiences. You will have a thorough understanding of contemporary early childhood curriculum and pedagogy along with a strong record of successfully implementing this in practice.

To be considered for this position, please apply online by submitting your CV and a separate cover letter that demonstrates how you meet the following selection criteria:

  • Recognised Early Childhood Teaching qualification

  • Accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)

  • Current and valid Certificates in First Aid, Emergency Asthma Management and First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis, and a current and valid WWCC clearance

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in the early childhood sector (minimum of 3-4 years)

  • Experience developing and implementing meaningful and engaging curriculum for children from birth to 5 years of age (experience with the 2s and 3s age group preferred)

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Standards and contemporary approaches to early childhood curriculum and pedagogy

  • Proven ability to work with others and coordinate a team approach to curriculum development

  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to students, families and staff from all backgrounds

  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative teaching environment, including building effective working relationships with team members

  • Experience developing and presenting professional learning and development for an early childhood audience (preferred, not essential)

  • Experience conducting or participating in research in an early childhood setting (preferred, not essential)

Note: The position of Early Childhood Teacher requires the successful candidate to comply with occupational screening assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie Universities health requirements. The position also requires a current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for NSW. Macquarie University must be satisfied that all background checks, including a criminal record and qualification check are completed.
