This scholarship shall provide support to two pre-med students who have demonstrated financial need as determined by ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
About Dr. Richard O. Flynn
The Scholarship was established by Dr. Richard O. Flynn’s children in fall 2002 to honor Dr. Flynn’s legacy.
Dr. Flynn opened his family practice in Tempe in 1953 and was one of two doctors in town. Known as a “physician, husband, father and citizen,” Dr. Flynn practiced medicine for nearly 44 years in Tempe, served as president of the Arizona State Medical Society in 1976 and was chief of staff of the Mesa Southside Hospital, now the Banner Desert Medical Center.
Dr. Flynn served on the Tempe City Council and was elected to two terms in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1976 to 1980. He served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He graduated from the University of Arizona and earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia Medical School.

This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students who have the intention of going to medical school and a reasonable opportunity to be accepted.
