Donor Relations Coordinator

Primary Purpose: The college of Agriculture and Bioresources has a supportive and engaged stakeholder base who donate to a wide variety of college initiatives.  The mandate of this position is to ensure these gifts are meaningfully and appropriately recognized. The position holder will develop and implement donor stewardship and donor recognition strategies with the goal of strengthening donor engagement and building affinity for the College of Agriculture and Bioresources. 

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Donor Relations Coordinator will establish procedures, develop work plans and carry out a variety of donor stewardship and donor relations activities. The Donor Relations Coordintor provides appropriate post-gift follow up to create a positive donor experience, and strengthen the bond between donors and the college by communicating on the outcome(s) of their donation. Much of the work will be project-based. Accuracy is essential to ensure that information provided to stakeholders is useful and appreciated. Success in the position will be enhanced through strong communication and organizational skills as well as possessing a high attention to detail.

Typical Duties:

  • Work with the Director of Development to establish effective donor stewardship initiatives.
  • Implement donor stewardship plans.
  • Develop donor stewardship reports including donor reports, scholarship reports, fund reporting, thank you mailings, gift acknowledgment letters and donor honor rolls. May also include coordination of donor focused events.
  • Collaborate with college staff, students and other university personnel as needed to carry out donor relations activities. This will include the development and distribution of written donor/stakeholder reports for major gifts, student awards and other donations as appropriate.
  • Prepare donors/stakeholder communications for college leadership and others, including written material, press releases, and other communication tools.
  • Track scholarship recipients to ensure accurate information is collected and reported to donors.
  • Implement personalized stewardship plans for top donors.
  • Collaborate with director in preparing annual donor rolls.
  • Make various updates to college website and other channels, primarily related to gifts and donor recognition.
  • Ensure that donor stewardship activities are appropriately tracked and evaluated.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ensure and demonstrate commitment to effective donor relations activities.
  • Collaborate with various college personnel and external stakeholders to implement donor relations strategies.
  • Manage and assess the effectiveness of various donor relations activities.
  • Ensure that assigned projects are successfully managed.
  • Enhance college profile through related communication efforts.

Education: A relevant undergraduate degree. A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related discipline would be considered an asset. Training and experience with a university advancement program is considered valuable although not essential. Experience in the not-for-profit and/or charitable organization would also be considered an asset but not required.

Experience: A minimum of three years relevant experience or an appropriate combination of experience and education may be considered. Experience with a donor centered approach to fundraising and donor relations would be helpful. Knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan, the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, fundraising, and donor stewardship activities are important. Having experience in a service oriented and/or customer service environment may be applicable to this role. A combination of other transferable experiences may also be considered.
