Job Description

The College of Health Solutions seeks an energetic, student-centered, and process-oriented Director of Undergraduate Academic Services to join the Student Success Hub. Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Success, the individual in this position oversees on-campus and online advising functions, as well as pre-health services. This position collaborates with the Director of Student Engagement and Retention to develop and administer undergraduate student support initiatives leading to increased retention, persistence, enrollment, and graduation outcomes for undergraduate students in the College of Health Solutions.

Essential Duties

  • Plans, directs and reviews academic advising and student support activities and operations for undergraduate students in the College of Health Solutions.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Student Engagement and Retention to develop, implement, and evaluate college and program retention and persistence activities and initiatives that assist in meeting undergraduate enrollment and graduation goals.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and directly supervises three assistant directors of on-campus undergraduate advising, online undergraduate advising, and pre-health services.
  • Indirectly supervises all of the college’s advisors and advising operations for more than 6,000 undergraduate health students enrolled on-campus and online.
  • Determines and takes appropriate corrective action and discipline including termination.
  • Confers with university officials, program directors, budget administrators and/or staff to make determinations for budget development, strategic planning, requests, and management analysis and accountability reports.
  • Conducts and assists with the development of long- and short-range goals.
  • Develops objectives and activities based on college and program enrollment goals.
  • Develops, maintains and implements college policies and procedures for undergraduate student success.
  • Represents the undergraduate advising team and/or college while serving on various committees and liaising with the Student Success Initiatives, Registrar, Financial Aid, and other university units.
  • Serves as representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, and committees as assigned.
  • Collects and analyzes data and creates reports that inform future practices, strategies, and initiatives to improve student persistence and graduation rates.
  • Resolves problems and issues affecting the college and directs measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of undergraduate student services.
  • Benchmarks best practices, reviews the latest research on undergraduate student retention and persistence, and assesses current advising strategies to revise practices and incorporate emerging techniques and technologies.
  • Directs and oversees the development and evaluation of programs and initiatives to improve undergraduate student success.
  • Manages the design, development and coordination of projects related to undergraduate student success.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field AND six (6) years experience in one or more of the following: advising, recruitment/retention, other related student services in a college/university environment, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices related to academic advising, enrollment management, and undergraduate student success.
  • Experience working with on-campus and online academic programs.
  • Experience planning, scheduling, and supervising the day-to-day operations and logistics for multiple team members.
  • Experience working with senior administrators and academic leadership to develop goals, establish priorities, create strategic plans, and resolve conflict.
  • Experience using Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and technology solutions for student success.
  • Evidence of effective presentation skills and verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in managing multiple large-scale, complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.
  • Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses.

Flexible work options :
This position is eligible for Hybrid work.  This is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location.

The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.
