Director, Space Planning and Management

University of Utah Health is seeking a new Director of Space Planning and Management.

 

This new leadership role directs the planning, organizing, and implementation of all aspects for space planning and related project scoping process within the University of Utah Health Care Hospitals and Clinics. Scope of responsibility includes oversight of current space planning for 6 million plus square feet.

 

  • Responsible for future system space planning including oversight of a team of Healthcare Facility Planners focusing on project scoping, capacity planning studies, cost estimation coordination and design services.
  • Oversees space inventory management databases and processes. Responsible for all aspects of the space planning project approval process.
  • Partners and coordinates with Hospital and University board of Trustees for project approvals. May work closely with senior management, internal resources, external partners, and vendors for project support and space planning.
  • Will interact with our academic partners in Real Estate administration for space planning, lease arrangements and cost controls to ensure they align with overall business objectives and goals.
  • Gathers and analyzes project information, inventory control, planning and implementation schedules, material requirements, production plans, and space layouts.
  • Develops documents that eliminate potential design issues and problems.
  • Uses analytical reports to set and monitor schedules.
  • Ensures that scheduling of work follows meets company policies, and all quality and safety standards.

 

This role reports to the Associate Executive Director System Planning and works with organizational leaders to successfully scope projects and strategically manage space requests. The incumbent will oversee a team of healthcare facility planners, team of architects, and other roles in project administration.

 

This position is not responsible for providing direct patient care.

  • Actively engages staff with updates and news as well as involving staff in decisions and work teams. Provides feedback and recognition when appropriate.

 

  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Demonstrated leadership skills in space planning, project management, and directing employees and processes, in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates, to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
    • Knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan, and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors.

Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment, or equivalency.
  • Six years or more progressively responsible management experience.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in a related area, or equivalency.
  • Experience in health care space planning
  • Knowledgeable in Architecture
