Director, Small Bus Develop Ctr

Temple University

Director, Small Bus Develop Ctr  (22003818)

Description

Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management is seeking a visionary leader with a passion for economic development to be the next Director of the school’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The Temple SBDC serves as a significant engine for economic and community development in the Philadelphia region, and the Director is an energetic and influential leader who can set strategy, guide the team, and help achieve radical impact. The Director will impact economic development and create opportunities for businesses and individuals throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding communities through entrepreneurship and business creation, growth, and resilience.

The Director oversees the SBDC to deliver business management consulting, education, and research services to enable entrepreneurs to start new businesses and help established businesses grow and prosper. The Temple University SBDC is one of 15 SBDCs in Pennsylvania and is responsible for delivering services to entrepreneurs and businesses in lower Bucks, eastern Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. Services are provided through a team of professional staff, outside contractors, and undergraduate and graduate students. The Center is funded by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), and the Fox School of Business at Temple University. The continuation of funding is dependent upon meeting annual metrics, including the number of clients served, number of jobs created and retained, access to capital, training provided, and community outreach to under-served and marginalized communities.

In addition to supporting the core mission of the SBDC network, the Center oversees other grants supporting programs aligned with economic development, including the Digital Connect program, currently funded by the Economic Development Agency (EDA) and the ENRICH Go Global program, and the global incubator housed at Temple University Center City (TUCC). One of the incumbent’s major responsibilities is to seek out and secure other funding opportunities, resources, and partnerships that support the growth of the Center.

The SBDC Director is responsible for the management of the Center, including administration of multiple programs and awards, compliance, financial management, human resources management, and stakeholder relations, among other responsibilities that further the SBDC’s core mission. The Director works closely with internal and external stakeholders at the university and in the local and regional ecosystem, including student and alumni engagement across campus. The SBDC Director reports to the Dean’s Office of the Fox School of Business at Temple University and has oversight and reporting requirements to the State Director of the Pennsylvania SBDC network.
