Job summary
Imperial College London is seeking applications for the post of Director of Undergraduate Primary Care Education in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, School of Public Health within the Faculty of Medicine.
Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will lead the multi-award-winning Undergraduate Primary Care Education Team, one of the largest of its kind in the UK overseeing numerous courses and modules in the MB BS degree. The post holder will lead all aspects of the team’s activities:
- Management and Leadership: Manage and set the strategic direction for Undergraduate Primary Care at Imperial College London. Line manage and develop key staff within the team. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders and collaborators to build team reputation.
- Teaching: Work closely with Primary Care Course Leads to develop, build on and evaluate the educational and academic output of the team.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the Undergraduate Primary Care Faculty Development Team in all aspects of quality assurance, ensure sustainable recruitment of GP tutors and oversee internally run GP teacher training courses. Act as the lead contact for any issues relating to student disciplinary or GP tutor GMC issues.
- Strategy and Business Planning: Lead on developing a clear strategy to promote, maintain and expand undergraduate primary care education, including business planning, financial and objective setting. Contribute to the sourcing of external funds for educational innovation and evaluation projects through proposals and bid writing.
The post will involve attending team, School of Public Health, medical school, and external meetings and will involve the managerial and administrative duties associated with a busy academic and research-active environment.
The post holder will be part of a unique model of educational support and development through the eCoPs (educational communities of practice). The post holder will interface with the team’s Medical Education Innovation and Research Centre (MEdIC), which has a focus on medical education that has a positive societal impact by bringing together medical education, community priorities, and NHS workforce needs.
Essential requirements
You will require:
- Certificate of Prescribed or equivalent experience for general practice
- Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise
- MRCGP or FRCGP
- Eligibility for appointment as a NHS GP
- Considerable experience in research-led innovative curriculum design and development in primary care education at an under/post graduate level
- Significant experience of working in General Practice
The appointee will also be expected to continue to work part-time clinically as a GP to be discussed and agreed with the Department. Please refer to the attached job description for a full list of essential criteria.
Further information
The appointee will be based at the Charing Cross campus (located in Hammersmith), as a member of the Department of Primary Care and Public Health (led by Professor Azeem Majeed) in the School of Public Health. The department will be relocating to Imperial College’s White City Campus in 2023. They will be expected to participate generally in the department’s activities and may take on other duties in agreement with the Head of Department.
